Newborn session (Julie, Dave, A, C, B, & baby J) – Wakefield, MA

As soon as baby J started to cry, both big sisters came right over and started to sing to him while his mama changed him. I was taken aback at the remarkable voice coming from the eldest. Holy smokes! (I later learned that mama herself has a musical theater background so it made total sense.) Baby number four is clearly adored by all in this loving family, even sweet brother B seemed to want to eat him up!

Later in the session, Julie told me just how happy she was in this moment to be surrounded by her children and the love of her life, Dave. And it shows. She is bubbly (despite being sleep-deprived) and so in love with her new baby. Dave seems equally smitten to have this new nugget. The whole family is a testament to how love can grow and grow; it warms my heart. Congratulations again, Julie and Dave!

First communion (A & S) – Wakefield, MA

Instead of running around in the excitement of big day for their First Communion trying to snap some pics, Missy asked if I would do a little session with her twins down by our local lake. How sweet are these two! A was so lovely in a gorgeous dress and veil and her smiley brother looked quite handsome. A & S, I loved getting to meet you and seeing you all decked out; good work grinning through the chilly weather. Thanks so much for the opportunity!

Day in the Life (Kristan, Adam, E, & J) – Arlington, MA

It may have been just an ordinary day. In fact, that was the idea. Nothing special planned. No coordinating clothes, no trip to an especially pretty park, no timing with the setting of the sun. Just do what you do as you normally do it. Let me capture it and then, then you can actually see all the beauty that happens on an ordinary day. Then you can see all that you do as a parent is extraordinary even though it may feel like it’s just part of the job. From Lego-building to boo-boo-kissing, from whipping up some pasta carbonara* to readying for bedtime, parenting is wonderful and challenging and exhausting and priceless.

The balancing act of being a mom and owning a small business is not unlike that of any other position where one must do two very different things simultaneously, do them well, and do them both with a full heart. Kristan managed to do this with skill and a smile: picking up E from school and consoling J, while also trying to figure out how to tweak her schedule for a new client. Adam seamlessly joined the team when he arrived home from work and caught up on the day’s events which included J nearly being pinned between the car door and a tree. E filled him in on just how tired she was (but had enough energy to enjoy the macaron for dessert). And at the end of the night when little eyes were closed and little hearts were content, they were able to enjoy the well-deserved quiet, the presence of each other, the comfort of their couch, and a little wine.

Kristan and Adam, thanks so much for opening your afternoon and evening to me and my cameras. I loved every minute.

*Literally, she whipped up pasta carbonara – no recipe needed, she didn’t even measure anything from what I could tell. Seriously, this would have taken me an hour. Check out her amazing cooking skills and fantastic business, Collier’s Market.

3-month old documentary session (Danielle, Mina, & O) – Cambridge, MA

The feeding, the burping, the swaddling, the shushing, the sleeping, the tea-drinking, the snuggling, the smiling, the tummy time. And repeat. I was overjoyed when Danielle and Mina decided to document their morning with their new baby, lovely and adorable O. A bit different than a brand new newborn session, we scheduled the shoot for when O was about 11-weeks old: Danielle and Mina knew their routine, O was more interactive than a days-old baby, and the goal was to capture her awake time versus her sleepy time.

My heart was stolen upon first sight of this sweet girl; her eyes were instantly captivating and engaging. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at her reaction to the little mobile going round and round above her in the swing – she showed genuine surprise and happiness at each little animal that came into her sight, over and over again. Mina and Danielle had their feeding routine down pat like a well-oiled machine. And O seemed so completely content despite a little cough and impending trip to the pediatrician. Danielle and Mina, congratulations again and thanks so much for letting me into your little world for the morning. How far we have come since our days at camp!
