West Coast boy meets East Coast ocean – Plaice Cove, Hampton, NH

For most of my life, my immediate family has remained fairly local, never really straying more than an hour or so from our hometown(s). I’ve come to realize that this is often not the case for many people. With this realization comes appreciation – appreciation for the family that is close and appreciation for the visits from the family that is far away. So holds true for my brother-in-law, his wife, and my nephew who live in California (and of course, as you know by now, my sister and her family in the UK). We traveled to meet newborn Baby J back in September and they recently came for a visit this summer. I wanted to share some of these last-minute-let’s-do-a-little-photo-shoot-while-you’re-here images.

Of course I’m biased, but isn’t he a handsome little guy?

Wherever did his good looks come from, you ask?

Can’t. Resist. The. Crinkle. Nose.

Scott and Krista, thanks so much for a great visit. I’m a proud auntie. And happy birthday, little J. In the words of your cousin, I love you all the way to California and back. Mwah!

Dynamic duo – Woburn, MA

I have a soft spot for twins given that my nephews are twins. And I also currently have a soft spot for all things British given that those nephews are currently in the UK for two years. So when I had the chance to photograph a family with twins from the UK, you can imagine my excitement. I’ve known these two for about two years now (boy, that’s a lot of twos!) and each session is more fun than the last. I love their cute little accents and their love of nature. And the lovely mom and dad tolerated my questions about when is the best time to visit London, why is there a government fee for a TV, etc. You’d think I’d know these things since I spent a semester abroad in London so I’m somewhat familiar but it’s been a *little* while and mommy-brain doesn’t help.

(Insert cute British accent here.) What a delightful family!

Little I and E loved collecting bits of nature and making piles: rocks, sticks, acorns, flowers. You name it!

They were very excited about their twirls and, in the words of my daughter, they had on good twirling dresses.

Cannot get enough of these smiles!

Double the smooches and squeezes.

Thank you, Angela and Chris, for allowing me to not only document your dynamic duo for the past two years, but also for answering my silly American questions about the UK. Thanks for telling me about The Gruffalo!

The big number one – Lynnfield, MA

Anytime I have a shoot with a newly-turned one-year-old, I offer both a “Happy Birthday” to the little honoree as well as a heartfelt “Congratulations” to the parents for making it through the first year. It’s an amazing time of growth, development, intense love, and adoration paired with sleep-deprivation, a new found depth of patience and a reemergence of various renditions of, “The Wheels on the Bus,” on repeat.

Happy 1st birthday, Baby A!

Love the crinkle-nose – sure sign of an honest smile.

She wasn’t quite sure what to think about her fuzzy birthday hat.

Sparkly princess shoes!

So much love spanning three generations.

Thank you Erika, Steve, and Paula for allowing me to document the accomplishment that is the first year milestone. Kudos all around! To view the complete gallery, click here (password required; please contact either the family or me if interested).

Newborn love – Lynnfield, MA

There is nothing like newborn love. This little person is all of a sudden there, in the world, and is dependent on you for everything. And the love that exists is pure. Sweet Baby K has made her way into the hearts of her mom and dad. I’m loving these cheeks!

At 7 weeks old, she was quite alert for most of the session though we did manage to get her asleep for some shots as well.

I loved this precious bassinet though apparently Baby K has not found it to be a suitable place to sleep; she much prefers her mama’s arms.

I think babies are born with an innate ability to work their way out of a swaddle no matter how well done it is. My husband fondly dubbed it the “Houdini.”

Thanks so much for allowing me to capture your little one! To view the complete gallery, click here (password required; please contact either the family or me if interested).

Life with two – Wakefield, MA

It’s a big debate: Is the transition from zero to one kid more or less difficult than the transition from one to two? Or maybe, two to three? I’m not sure but in any case, Scott and Heather seem to have the “life with two” thing down. Their hand-off of who needed who in each moment seemed seamless and their laid back attitude went a long way in having a fun-filled morning session in their backyard. This was a kids-only session so you’ll notice the parents are intentionally outside the frame – even though I thought they looked perfectly presentable!

Aren’t they sweet together?

Big brother B is a jokester and loved making silly faces!

But he also seemed to enjoy striking a pose every now and then!

Baby M was adorable and seemed to be game for just about anything even though she woke up about an hour before she normally does.

Heather and Scott, thanks so much for letting me come play in your backyard! Your little ones were a ton of fun.
