Extended family portrait session – Long Beach, MA

After this fun little family session, we went to the grandmother’s beach house just down the road and met up with the extended family for some group portraits. What a handsome looking bunch! Almost everyone in the family made it which is quite remarkable. I loved the closeness of the sisters, the I-can’t-believe-you’re-making-me-stand-next-to-him/her looks I got from the tweens/teenagers, and the how-do-I-hold-a-baby look I got from the eldest grandson. Thanks so much to all of you, and especially to Darryl, for pulling your crew together.

Family of five portrait session – Long Beach, MA

The sun was bright as they all enjoyed the entertainment that the ocean provides. The oldest daughter, A, was focused on building a castle. Her little sister, L, persevered in her bubble-blowing attempts. And handsome J enjoyed walking in and out of the water, over and over again. I loved the strawberry-blond locks, the sibling hugs, and all the sand that covered the bottom of the girls’ dresses. Thanks so much for a wonderful way to start the day! Our morning continued on after this – we all went back to the grandmother’s beach house and met up with the extended family for a portrait session with the whole crew (see the next post)!

Family session with two-year-old twins – Gloucester, MA

This past winter, Eric and Lisa attended a fundraiser for a music program at Children’s Hospital. I was so excited to hear that they were the winning bidders on a portrait session. I had met them and their adorable twins a little over a year ago. Sweet S and G have grown so much since then and are definitely keeping their parents on their toes. We met for some early morning fun on the beach. G, in his new found undies, couldn’t wait to shed his shorts and go exploring. And S had no trouble at all getting right in the water. I loved seeing their pure joy – complete, genuine joy. They had so much fun it was tough for them to leave (exhibit A: the last photo in this post!). Eric and Lisa, thanks so much for bidding on the auction item. And thanks to Christen for putting it all together. What a wonderful cause.

Newborn session – Wakefield, MA

Big sister greeted me at the door with a beam in her eye. She seemed excited and anxious to introduce her new baby sister. The curls on her head are enough to make anyone with pin straight hair (i.e. me!) jealous. She sweetly showed me where the new arrival was sleeping, on daddy’s lap, and told me her name. The baby proceeded to sleep throughout most of our time together while big sister enjoyed her freedom to jump on her parents’ bed with such delight! Sleepy C was as cute as a button and seemed to love all the attention from her big sister. What an adorable pair you have there, Linda and Mike. Congratulations again on your new sweet pea. Thanks so much for sharing your morning with me!

50th Wedding Anniversary – Wrentham, MA

Fifty years is a long time to sustain anything. When it comes to marriage, 50 years is admirable, something to aspire to, something to learn from, something to behold and celebrate. And celebrate they did. Maryann and Bob renewed their vows surrounded by their family, friends, and most of their original wedding party. As the priest touchingly brought to light, unlike a regular wedding where we are wishing the couple a “happily ever after,” celebrating such a major milestone in a marriage has a very different quality. It’s a way of marking having enjoyed each others’ companionship through the years as well as weathering the various challenges life brings us all. It brought goosebumps to my arms and tears to my eyes to see them recommit to each other in whatever lies ahead in the next chapter of their lives. A giant congratulations to you, Bob and Maryann!

On a personal note, this was a special day for me, too. You see, Bob and Maryann’s son traveled to China with his wife exactly 11 years ago on this day to adopt their oldest daughter, Kaia. At the time, I was working at the agency that facilitated the adoption and I traveled with them on their trip. It was incredible to see you all again, Melanie, Bob, and Kaia. I love how the different chapters of my life have intersected to bring me such amazing opportunities. Thank you so much to all of you!
