Woohoo, a new niece for me! – Melrose, MA

Yes, I’m celebrating a bit because as of 2 weeks ago, one of my baby sisters (yes, she’ll always be a baby sister to me) had a healthy baby girl. Sweet baby N seems to already be settling into the fold quite nicely, with big sister C taking a vested interest in all things baby. Rainelle has always been a mom-like figure to me, even though she was the younger of us, so to see her with a second seems nothing short of natural. Quick examples of her mothering traits: she was always the teacher when we played school (and later became a real one), and when it was my turn to load the dirty dishes into the dishwasher, she would rearrange them the “right” way. Sorry, Rainelle, had to share that one!

Anyway, it’s easy to see how much love this little one will receive. Besides her big sister, she has my two daughters who want nothing but to touch her soft cheeks and hold her all day. Another two cousins who live abroad who want to video “chat” with her, and an additional two cousins on Doug’s side who live in the next town over! All under the age of 5. Welcome to the chaos of family gatherings, little one, welcome.

Doug and Rainelle, congratulations on such a darling little addition to your beautiful family. As for you, big sister C, I know how much you love your new baby sister, but I *did* happen to catch a little I’m-not-so-sure-about-this-baby-thing look (see the last photo below). I’ll tell you what my mother told us time and time again up until a week before she passed away: friends may come and go, but you will always have your sister. Treasure her as I treasure your mom, your Auntie Beth, and Auntie Alyssa.

I love the baby snuggles I’ve already had and can’t wait for more. Mucho love-o.

The new normal – Newton, MA

“Don’t mind us, we’re just getting used to our new normal,” she said as I was getting my gear ready for a fun little newborn/family shoot. Tiny baby A was sound asleep in a cozy bassinet and big sister O was running around the house, excited to show me her new birthday gifts. Baby A was a serious rockstar sleeper for most of my time there and O seemed to move in and out of the scene fairly seamlessly with a little help from daddy. Just over a week had passed since baby A entered this family that I have known since big sister was a baby. Their new normal seemed to be quite normal already. Maggie and Joel, thanks, as always, for giving me the honor of photographing your darling family. I’m thrilled for you all to have a new little addition. Many wishes for giggles and snuggles, and a sweet sisterhood between O and A. Big, big hugs!

Chill and more chill – Somerville, MA

Tiny H made *one* squawk the whole time I was there, and that was all. Tiny D just seemed to take it all in, raising his eyebrows in curiosity. I’m 100% sure that their lovely parents, Melissa and Brian, could attest to other moods, but they could have fooled me. Sure, I’ve seen plenty of happy, sleeping babies, but these two were AWAKE and happy (a state my first born didn’t seem to know until she was a good 6+ months). And Melissa and Brian already seem to have a good groove – doing the “double switch” with ease and upping their coffee intake like pros. Congrats, you two, on a beautiful family! Thanks so much for a fun (and quiet!) little morning.

A nod to tradition – Winchester, MA

With sweet E and E’s grandmother visiting from Hawaii, it was a special session to be able to take portraits of all three generations together. And what made it even more special is that their grandmother brought beautiful traditional Korean clothes for both of her grandchildren as a nod to her homeland. The littler E had just celebrated her first birthday, the bigger E couldn’t stop smiling, Jennifer was relishing in it all, and the grass was green (John, that’s a nod to you!).

What a fun little morning, Jennifer and John! Thanks so much for the opportunity to photograph your family again. Congrats on making it through another first year!

Good ol’ backyard fun – Newton, MA

Combine the striking curiosity of a 2-year-old, the giggly humor of a 7-year-old, two wonderfully playful parents and you get a fun-filled family session all taking place right in the backyard (and front yard). The early morning started with a sophisticated cup of tea for each of the boys as they played with their countless legos. The session was filled with a hunt for inchworms, jumps from the porch steps, a family snuggle, a game of chase, and a chill moment on the hammock. Jess and Russ, what a handsome group you have there! Thanks so much for sharing your morning with me. I enjoyed meeting you all immensely.
